The first photo is the before of an ornamental ceiling. We were called in because the
ceiling was sagging seven inches in the center. We removed ninety percent of the ceiling
leaving one foot around the perimeter. This foot was in good condition and helped for use
as a guide for instaIlation of the mouldings. The ceiling was installed on a cross firring
system over the joists. After eighty years of leaks and settling the nails were pulling out of
the joists and causing the sagging. After plaster removal we reattached the cross firring,
wire lathed the ceiling and installed three coat plaster. We replicated all the mouldings
and embellishments and installed them, after which we textured over the entire ceiling
both mouldings and flat surface exactly like the original. When finished, you could not
tell the difference between the existing ceiling and new, except for the absence of
damage.
